When you think of gardening it’s easy to get a vision of a big garden with a sea of flowers and plenty of fruit trees and rose bushes. Not everyone has a garden like that though and the fact is you can enjoy gardening whether you have a huge garden or just a few square meetres or maybe just a balcony. You can always grow your own herbs, plant some nice flowers in matching colors and make your own outdoor room whether it’s a huge one or a very small one.
If you find it difficult to come up with ideas for gardening in small spaces I’ve got an advice for you. Buy the great book; The balcony gardener – creative ideas for small spaces! It’s written by Isabelle Palmer, who runs the wonderful web shop; The balcony gardener and who’s the author of the blog with the same name. I really appreciate all she’s doing and I really think everyone should read this book! It contains so many nice ideas, not to mention all the wonderful photos. It’s a true treasure to put in the book shelf and I’m sure you will get many new ideas when you read it. In the mean time…. Head over to the web shop and have a look at all the eye candy you can find there, it’s truly one of my favorite shops, all categories!
Before we move on to the next part of the painting theme I would like to discuss something else with you. I think most of you are very interested in interior as well gardening, or at least one of these two topics. Now I would like to hear your opinion. What do you first look at when you visit someone for the first time? Assume they live in a house with a small (or big) garden…
Personally I look at the front porch first. I think it’s very important that this part of the house is clean but personally decorated and I think it’s a big bonus if the house owner has put some effort in making the front porch welcoming.
How can you make the front porch welcoming but clean? In my opinion there are three ways to do it.
Put a nice flower pot filled with blooming flowers beside the porch. Make sure the flowers look good together, use flowers with matching colors. When using flowers it’s very important to keep them clean and fresh. Remember to remove fading flowers.
Put a nice door sign on the door. I want to see who I visit and I think it looks really elegant and nice with a custom made sign on the door (or on the wall beside the door).
Put a nice lantern on the porch. Don’t pick the first lantern you find, it really has to match your home in order to be an asset.
Do you have any more suggestions when it comes to making the front porch more welcoming? All tips are welcome here and I can’t wait to hear what you have to say.
I think that most of you agree when I say that it’s important to care about the environment and I’m also sure that some of you already do what you can to support the nature. There’s plenty of things that a single person can do in order to protect the environment and I’ll mention a few of them here.
Take a walk when you can – Leave your car at home if possible. Maybe you can take a walk to the office or to the school when it’s time to pick up the kids. It can be nice to spend some healthy time together on the way home.
Choose eco food – Choose eco friendly food as often as you can. These products are normally marked with a symbol which makes it a lot easier for you. This might seem like a small step but it can make a huge difference in the end.
Choose eco friendly home decor – Yes! You can actually choose eco products when it comes to home decor as well. Take a close look when you’re out shopping. Does the company use eco friendly material? Are the products sustainable?
These steps are really easy to take and everyone can make a difference. There are so many eco friendly products out there and many really nice alternatives. I’ve looked at some sustainable home decor products and furniture and there is so much to choose between. Have a look!
Eco-friendly products gets more and more popular and that goes for all kinds of products, from makeup to clothes. I personally think that this new eco-thinking is great and I’m very glad to work for a company who takes its responsibility and cares about the environment. I’ve shown photos of our signs on the blog before but I haven’t told you much about the production part and I thought this might be a good time to tell you about why our signs are eco-friendly.
As you might have read we offer a 30-year warranty for all our signs and we can do that because we know that our signs are very durable. They often last for an entire lifetime and it’s easy to figure out that this is good for the environment. Instead of producing a higher amount of signs that lasts only a few years we make sure to produce signs that are very durable in order to minimize waste and save nature resources. The benefits for you as a customer are big as well. You will save money by investing in a sign that will last for many decades instead of a sign that will have to be replaced in a few years. Another thing that has to be mentioned is that we follow all EU environmental requirements and all our signs are manufactured in Europe. In addition we only use non-toxic recyclable materials and iron and glass.
I’m very proud of this eco-thinking and I try to take my responsibility as a customer when I’m out shopping as well. I think this is really important and because of that I will show you some other nice eco-friendly products from other companies in my next blog post. Maybe you’ve got some nice tips to share as well?
As I told you yesterday I think outdoor lighting is very important but I don’t think even I understood how important I considered it to be… Why am I saying this? Because since I wrote that post I haven’t been able to stop searching for nice outdoor lamps on the net, and believe me… I’ve found plenty of nice alternatives!
I wanted to share a few of the alternatives with you here. I think all these lamps would look great on houses and cottages owned by people who likes the old, classic style. I’m aware of the fact that they’re not very modern, but I’ve always preferred an older touch at home.
Imagine these lamps on your wall… Do you find any favorites among them? I’m not even able to choose between them, I love them all!
