It’s snowing outside, and we’ve got plenty of snow on the ground. I find it a bit cozy, since it makes it a bit lighter, now that it gets dark quite early. However, I can’t help myself from longing for summer, probably because we had a quite poor summer this year… Much rain, few hours with sunshine and not many warm days. So, what can I do about this? Not much really, the winter will come, and probably stay for months, whether I like it or not. I can, however, search for inspiration online, and I can decorate my home in a way that reminds me of warm summer days. Isn’t that a good idea?
So, what home decorating style makes me think of warm summer days? Actually several, but the one that came to my mind first, was the nautical beach style. I think it’s beautiful with the white and blue theme, and a good thing with this decor style is that it doesn’t have to be expensive to decorate the home. You can get beautiful accessories without paying a penny, and that’s great for all of us, who like to refresh the home every now and then.
How to get nautical accessories without having to pay
The nautical beach style is very popular, and it can become very expensive if you’re planning to buy all accessories in stylish interior shops. There are other ways to get your hands on unique and beautiful things though.
The first thing to do if you’d like to develop a unique beach style at home, is to take a stroll on the beach. Look for beautiful sea shells, which can be used for many different things. Place them on a table, in a pattern, with a candle holder in the middle, or place them on the mantel along with some nautical flags. There are so many ways to decorate with sea shells.
There’s other things to look for on your stroll as well. Try to find old wooden pieces, they can be used for several purposes as well. You can write something on them, or put hooks in it and use it as a holder for clothes. You can also paint a suitable picture on it and use it as a unique painting. The great thing is that you don’t even have to make something out of it, you can put it on the wall, just as it is. That will give a nautical touch to the room as well.
Another way to save some money is to sew your own pillow cases and curtains. It’s actually quite easy, not as all as advanced as sewing your own clothes. Use blue and white and get the perfect beach style at home, without spending your entire budget.
I haven’t made any changes at home yet, but I’ve got plenty of ideas, and I will definitely consider to change a few things here soon. I love the french country style, but I’d love to get a summer touch at home, now when the winter is approaching so quickly.
