We haven’t talked much about decorating rooms for children so far but I thought this might be a good time to start. I’ve got two kids myself and I spend plenty of time planning how to decoratate their rooms in a personal and cosy way. Since they are 7 and 9 years old they wants to be part of the planning as well but we usually agree on most things.
I know it can be really difficult to decorate rooms for children since it has to be practical and cosy at the same time. I do have some tips to share though, maybe you’ll find some of it useful.
- Focus on storage – In a room that belongs to kids it’s important to have plenty of room for storage. Plan this in a smart way, use wall shelves, boxes that can be put in shelves on the floor and if you need even more storage you might want to buy a bed with storage room underneath.
- Let the kids pick their own color scheme – If possible, let the kids pick the color scheme for the room. It’s easy to paint the walls in the color that you child likes and it’s just as easy to put up a nice wallpaper. You can follow this scheme when it comes to curtains, textiles and bed linen as well. It will give the room a cosy look and your child will like it since he or she got to choose the colors.
- Make the room personal – You can use templates to write your childs name on the wall or you can put up a wall shelf where you can place some of your childs favorite belongings along with an enamel sign with your childs name on it. The great thing with enamel signs is that they won’t break easily, something that is very important to consider when you’re choosing items for a room meant for kids.
These are just a few of my favorite ideas and I’m sure you’ve got plenty of more tips in store. I’d love if you wanted to share your tips here, it would be greatly appreciated!
